Hurricane Ian Update: The Latest Central Florida Transportation News

As Hurricane Ian prepares to make its presence felt throughout Central Florida the airports and roads around the area begin to empty.


Here we bring you up to date with all the latest information on the toll roads, bus services, train services and more.

Toll Roads


The Florida Department of Transportation have suspended tolls until further notice on select roadways in several areas along the Gulf coast and in Central Florida until further notice.


The Central Florida toll roads where drivers will not have to pay include:


Apopka Expressway

Beachline Expressway

Central Florida GreeneWay

East-West Expressway

Florida Turnpike Mainline

Goldenrod Road extension

I-4 Express

Osceola Parkway

Poinciana Parkway

Seminole Expressway

Southern Connector Extension

SR 453

Wekiva Parkway

Western Beltway




Parking


The City of Orlando is waiving parking fees at several garages in attempt to save vehicle owners the worry of flooding or tree damage in the coming storm.


The fee-free parking hours at city-run garages begin at 2 p.m. on September 28.


The four garages where you can park for free are:


Central Boulevard Garage, 53 West Central Boulevard

Jefferson Street Garage, 62 West Jefferson Street

Library Garage, 112 East Central Boulevard

Orange County Administration Garage, 300 Liberty Avenue


Officials note that the free parking is only for passenger vehicles and that no oversized vehicles, campers, boats, trailers, watercraft or otherwise will be allowed.


They ask that all cars are removed by 8 p.m. on Friday, weather and road conditions permitting.



Central Florida Airports:


Orlando International Airport

Orlando International Airport (MCO) have ceased all commercial operations from Wednesday, September 28th at 10:30am.


Orlando Sanford International Airport

Sanford Airport closed at 5pm on Tuesday September 27 2022 until further notice.


Melbourne Orlando International Airport

MLB will close at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 28.


Tampa International Airport

TPA have suspend all operations from Tuesday, September 27, at 5:00 p.m.


St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport

St. Pete Clearwater International Airport closed 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 27 until further notice.




Walt Disney World Transportation


Walt Disney World Transportation stopped operating Tuesday evening, September 27. 2022 until further notice.




LYNX Bus Services


From today, Wednesday, September 28, all LYNX bus services are suspended until further notice to comply with Central Florida’s emergency operations request to keep all roads clear for emergency situations.




SunRail


The Florida Department of Transportation has temporarily suspended all SunRail Services until further notice.




Mears Taxis


The areas largest taxi company, Mears is not accepting reservations Wednesday, 28 and Thursday 29 September to ensure the safety of our guests, teams and contractors.
