As conditions deteriorate across Central Florida, Hurricane Milton continues its potentially life-threatening assault on the state, and with severe weather expected throughout Thursday, Walt DIsney World has confirmed it will remain closed Thursday.
As a rare, historic and possibly catastrophic event unfold across Florida, Walt Disney World has today, Wednesday, October 9, suspended operations across the resort, with the exception of guests currently staying in hotels.
All four theme parks, water park, Disney Springs and more closed early today as Central Florida awaits a potentially devastating hit from Hurricane Milton in the hours ahead.
Walt Disney World Resort began its closures for Hurricane Milton in stages today, with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom closing at 1pm, Magic Kingdom, with EPCOT, and Disney Springs closing at 2pm.
Yesterday, when Disney made the announcement that they were closing the resort early today they stated that the theme parks would “likely” remain closed on Thursday. Now they have confirmed that the parks WILL remain closed on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
The Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party scheduled for Thursday has also been cancelled.
Disney Springs will also remain closed on Thursday, with Disney Parking garages at Disney Springs will also close at 2pm, with parking garages unavailable to guests during the storm.
Walt Disney World also confirmed that it will be extending the expiration dates for partially-used multi-day tickets due to the storm, "For guests with partially used multi-day tickets, Walt Disney World is making accommodations by extending the ticket expiration dates. These tickets will now expire on October 11, 2025."
They have also advised resort guests that Minnie Van service will be unavailable starting at 4pm today, and will only resume when it is safe to do so. Limited Mears taxi service will be available to Walt Disney World Resort guests.
In other news that affects Walt Disney World, a curfew has been issued for Osceola County, which includes parts of the resort. This curfew begins at 8pm tonight, Wednesday October 9, 2024.
Walt Disney World is not the only attraction to close ahead of Hurricane Milton, with all local theme parks and attractions either already closed or closing today.
Orlando International Airport is also closed, ceasing commercial operations at 9am this morning.
This week's closure will only be the tenth time since Walt Disney World opened in 1971 that the resort has closed due to the threat of severe weather.

Hurricane Charley: Closed early on August 13, 2004
Hurricane Frances: Closed on September 4 - 5, 2004
Hurricane Jeanne: Closed on September 26, 2004
Hurricane Matthew: Closed early on October 6, 2016, remained closed on October 7
Hurricane Irma: Closed early on September 9, 2017, remained closed on September 10 - 11
Hurricane Dorian: Closed early on September 3, 2019
Hurricane Ian: Closed September 28 - 29, 2022
Hurricane Nicole: Closed early November 9 through mid-day November 10, 2022
Walt Disney World also closed early on September 11, 2011, and the COVID-19 Pandemic forced the resort to close on March 15, 2020, with a gradual reopening beginning May 19, 2020,
