Tropical Storm Debby Weather Update

Expect increasing squalls from Tropical Storm Debby today, especially in the afternoon. Hazardous marine conditions will exist at the beach and over the local coastal waters. We will see breezy/gusty southeasterly winds 15 to 20 mph sustained with gusts to 25 to 30 mph. Primary storm impacts include brief gusts to 40 to 50 mph, with a few gusts to 55 to 60 mph possible, occasional to frequent lightning strikes, torrential downpours leading to minor or nuisance flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas - especially after repeated rounds of precipitation. Storm motion will be quickly toward the north at 35 to 45 mph.

A Small Craft Advisory exists across all of the local Atlantic waters out to 60 nautical miles. A HIGH risk for numerous, strong, life-threatening rip currents will be present at ALL central Florida Atlantic beaches. Entering the ocean is strongly discouraged!

In addition to strong rip currents, a strong northward flowing longshore current will also be present. A longshore current flows parallel to the beach and can be strong enough to knock you off the sandbar into deep water. Never try to swim directly against currents that occur at the beaches.
