The Orlando Guardians are one of the eight XFL teams in this inaugural season for the new set-up.
The new league, owned by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Gerry Cardinale, is the third attempt to make the XFL a success.
The previous two incarnations of the XFL were owned by former WWE CEO Vince McMahon and each one folded before there was a second season, with the first season in 2001 folding as the season ended, McMahon tried again in 2020, but the season folded after five weeks and ended with the league filing bankruptcy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now with new owners, and major backing including new, exclusive broadcast partner, The Walt Disney Company and ESPN, the XFL is back and ready to shine.
ESPN are broadcasting all 43 games on at least one of their networks and stream each game on ESPN+.
t
Seven games, including the XFL Championship Game, will be on ABC, with ESPN and ESPN2 broadcasting 22 games, and FX broadcasting 15 games.
Eight XFL teams are playing this inaugural season: Arlington, Houston, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Seattle, St. Louis, Washington D.C. and Orlando.
The season openers took place on Saturday, February 18, with each week consisting of four games.
The XFL playoffs start on April 29 with two semifinal games and then the Championship Game takes place two weeks later on May 13.
Eight XFL teams are playing this season, Arlington, Houston, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Seattle, St. Louis, Washington D.C. and Orlando.
The head coach of the Orlando Guardians is Terrell Buckley, a 14-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl XXXVI Champion. Selected fifth overall by the Green Bay Packers in the 1992 draft, he went on to play for the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, New York Jets and New York Giants.
In 2019, Buckley was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
“I am back in the Sunshine State to lead the way with smart, fast, and fearless football for our fans,” Buckley said. “Visiting teams better prepare for a sea of green guarding over Camping World Stadium."
When asked what he liked most about the Sunshine State, Buckley said: “What’s not to love about Florida? With the sun shining and the fearless attitude that the players are going to bring, we’re going to add a lot of excitement for Floridian football lovers.”
"I want to see fans come out and show us some love at Camping World Stadium," Buckley added. "We’re going to leave it all out on the field for our fans."
