Don't grab your snorkel just yet, as the new "The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure" show is not now opening this year!
Bad news today, Monday, October 14 from sources within Walt Disney World as the resort has pushed back the opening of “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” – an all-new theatrical production that was scheduled to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this fall.
The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is set be a re-imagining of the original Voyage of the Little Mermaid show, which premiered in 1992, before closed its doors in 2020 due to the resort-wide shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic
This brand-new reimagining of the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic “The Little Mermaid,” was set to open this fall featuring all-new physical sets, a cast of puppets, live performers, and stunning visuals.
The delay in opening is due to unforeseen challenges during the construction and development of the new show.
So when will “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” open? The show will now open in Summer 2025, disappointing many fans who were looking forward to this new show opening soon.
When the new show does opens in 2025, cutting-edge digital imagery will be used throughout the show to accent what is happening on stage, bringing to life characters like King Triton, Ursula, and even Ariel’s sisters, who kick the production off with an all-new “Daughters of Triton” number.
The re-imagined show will still feature the original musical numbers including Part of Your World and Poor Unfortunate Souls, albeit with a fresh take.
Although the new show is postponed, expect exterior work to begin later this year, including a new marquee.
