Experience the hilarious, irreverent musical by Donald Rupe, loosely inspired by the cult classic movie “Drop Dead Gorgeous”.

The Renaissance Theatre Company is at it again, serving up the outrageous, side-splitting musical Gorgeous, running April 11th through May 3rd, 2025, at The Ren in Orlando. Written by the wickedly funny Donald Rupe, this irreverent spectacle takes very loose inspiration from the cult classic Drop Dead Gorgeous—but don’t worry, any resemblance to the Silver Spurs Rodeo in St. Cloud, Florida is purely coincidental (wink, wink).

Brace yourself for a wild ride through the Ms. Golden Boot Pageant (and scholarship ceremony!), where the competition is fierce, the dance  numbers are questionable, and the personalities are larger than life. Featuring the delightfully absurd town choreographer Svedka Stolichnaya and the ever-ambitious pageant director/mama bear Breanna Buckley—played to perfection by local stars Blake Aburn and Becca Jo Lightfoot. This show is back at The Ren for a second round of chaos, comedy, and just the right amount of inappropriateness.

“Gorgeous is about a place that many people have heard of or visited (St. Cloud, Florida). When the characters sing about the amoebas in the lake, many people know exactly which lake. When there are little lines about real-life landmarks that sound too ridiculous to be true, locals may remember the real-life inspiration. Fans of movies like ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ and ‘Miss Congeniality’ will love this feel-good, funny musical, which is meant to be a comedic escape from the real world” says Kendall Leamy, Gorgeous cast member.

Stay after the show, for our after party “Boots.”  The evening continues with a live house band (led by local favorites Iris Johnson and AC Jenkins) playing a mix of country hits and pop favorites (Shania Twain, The Chicks, Beyoncé and more). Afterward, take part in a line dancing lesson, then sit back and enjoy show-stopping performances on the bar by talented local drag stars like Myki Meeks, Angelica Sanchez, and Orusha San Miguel, and a full cast of dancers, all hosted by Orlando-famous actor, Blake Aburn, fresh from his Off-Broadway run in From Here over the summer.

On select nights see drag superstars straight from Rupaul’s Drag Race including Kennedy Davenport and Sam Star. The event offers general admission standing room or the option to reserve a seat for an additional fee. For those looking to elevate the experience, VIP packages are available, featuring specialty cocktails and private booths for you and your crew.
