Red Bull Flugtag is expected to bring more than 100,000 spectators and a $3.4 million estimated economic impact to Tampa.
Get ready to soar, Tampa! More than 100,000 spectators are expected for the Red Bull Flugtag on Saturday, November 9 outside the Tampa Convention Center.
This unique and crazy event is free to attend, with some of the best viewing areas available along the Tampa Riverwalk.
Named after the German word for 'flying day', Red Bull Flugtag challenges the brave and brainy to design and build human-powered flying machines, then launch them off an 8.5m flight deck over water. Teams of all shapes and sizes take to the skies in their handcrafted flying machines.
This unique, high-flying event will have an estimated economic impact of $3,423,000 for the City of Tampa and the surrounding region, according to Visit Tampa Bay.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome the Red Bull Flugtag back to Tampa, along with the 100,000 spectators it will bring,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “We can’t wait to watch these daring pilots take flight, or maybe more accurately, take a plunge, right outside the Tampa Convention Center. It's going to be an epic day, and most importantly, an economic boost of over $3 million to our city. It’s a win-win.”
The Red Bull Flugtag consists of crews launching homemade aircraft off a 27-foot-tall flight deck constructed over the Tampa Convention Center Marina. The event is free to attend, with some of the best viewing areas available along the Tampa Riverwalk.
This will be the third Red Bull Flugtag to happen in Tampa, as it was previously held in the city in 2011 and 2008.
