The City of Orlando is planning a year-long celebration filled with community events, historical exhibits and public art installations.
Over the last century and a half, Orlando has evolved from an isolated town in the middle of Florida into a truly dynamic city, and this year Orlando is celebrating its 150th Anniversary, with a year-long celebration to honor the occasion.
To kick start the celebrations, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 1 Commissioner: Jim Gray, Commissioner Patty Sheehan, District 5, City of Orlando Commissioner Rose, District 6 Commissioner: Bakari F. Burns and members of the City staff unveiled a banner outside City Hall to start the year-long celebration of City of Orlando - Government's 150th anniversary!
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer commented, "The anniversary provides us with the opportunity to learn more about our city’s history, recognize the progress made to create a welcoming, vibrant community and celebrate all that makes Orlando special today and look forward to events and recognitions throughout the year."
City officials say that celebrating will continue as we lead up to Orlando's birthday on Thursday, July 31.
Want to join the celebration? Throughout the year, the city will be celebrating in a number of ways, including a special exhibit at the Orange County Regional History Center opening in April, a public art exhibit opening this summer and a community-wide service event on Orlando’s birthday, July 31st.
Plus many more community events and activities to bring us all together.
