Central Florida Vocal Arts opens their thirteenth season with the swashbuckling adventure Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance from August 9 - 11, 2024 at Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater.
This comedic classic follows a young pirate who falls in love, leading to hilarious misadventures and rollicking romance. Directed by Selena Ambush, CFVA’s The Pirates of Penzance will feature the best of Central Florida’s vocal talent with the lush backing of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Aaron Collins.
With the tongue-twisting Major-General and rabble-rousing Pirate King, there's a shipload of glorious things to delight first-timers and Gilbert and Sullivan aficionados alike.
Set sail with this classic comedy that boasts one of the most famous patter songs in musical theatre history. Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilarious, hopeful farce follows young Frederic, an orphan who has mistakenly been apprenticed to an ineffectual but raucous band of pirates.
He disavows the pirates’ way of life and falls for the beautiful Mabel. Frederic’s melodious tones win over the heart of Major-General Stanley’s songbird daughter, Mabel, but when the Pirate King discovers that General Stanley has lied about being an orphan to keep the pirates from stealing all of his belongings and carrying off his bevy of beautiful daughters, an “ingenious paradox” may prevent the budding romance and lead to the death of “The very model of a modern Major-General.”
Tickets are still available for The Pirates of Penzance at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts with Space Coast Symphony Orchestra
