As we approach the Pulse Anniversary, Orlando takes time to remember the 49 beautiful angels that were sadly taken from our community.
Pride Month here in Orlando will always have extra significance here in Orlando, as our communities thoughts turn to the anniversary of the tragic events that happened on June 12, 2016, a night that evil visited Orlando in the form of a gunman who entered Pulse Nightclub and killed 49 innocent people and wounded 53 more in what was at the time, the countries worst ever mass shooting.
The Pulse Nightclub shooting is a horrific event that Orlando will never forget, an event that both devastated and brought our community together.
This year is the seventh anniversary of the Pulse tragedy, and there is many community-wide activities taking place during the Seven-Year Pulse Remembrance Week, which will be held from Saturday, June 3 to Monday, June 12, 2023.
The Remembrance Week concludes with the Seven-Year Pulse Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, June 12 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Dr. Phillips Center’s front lawn became a community gathering place seven years ago where people came together to mourn and remember; the lawn was also the site of a remembrance event in 2017 and served as a second site for the Five-Year Pulse Remembrance Ceremony. Ticket information is available at drphillipscenter.org.
The observance brings together the families of those whose lives were tragically taken and provides them a space to remember their loved ones in peace. The ceremony also honors all who survived, the brave first responders and the trauma teams who sacrificed so much to save so many. The general public is also invited to watch a live streaming of the ceremony on the onePULSE Foundation Facebook page.
Many community-based organizations in Central Florida that were created after and impacted by the Pulse tragedy are holding events in observance of remembrance.
