A popular hangout for Orlando City Soccer fans which has been in danger of closing its doors for months, has lost it's battle to survive, announcing its closure, "effective Immediately."
Bad news for soccer fans, as the popular pregame hangout for a drink before an Orlando City or Pride match, Broken Strings Brewery, has closed its doors permanently.
The Parramore brewery and taproom, located at 1012 W. Church St. Orlando, which has been a regular feature in downtown for over 10 years, warned of possible closure last year, when in April 2024, the owner, Charles Frizzell launched a GoFundMe to help keep the doors open.
In the months that followed, the community answered the call, with the fund allowing Frizzell to make repairs and pay the bills to keep the wolfs from the door, sadly this has not been enough to force the closure of Broken Strings.
Frizzell revealed the news of the closure via social media on Monday, Jan. 7, announcing that Broken Strings Brewery will be closing, effective immediately, blaming the closure on the changes being made downtown over the past year, that have "basically turned Downtown Orlando into a ghost town."
While commenting that the changes downtown had caused significant damage to his business, he also said that many other factors have affected this decision as well, such as the increase in the cost of doing business and the decline in craft beer.
While Broken Strings has already closed, Frizzell is hosting one last party in the taproom on Saturday, January 18, with free beer until the kegs are empty!
More details and time for the event will be made available soon, so keep an eye on Broken Stings Facebook Page!
Here is the closure announcement in full:
"With a heavy heart and broken spirit, we must announce that Broken Strings Brewery will be closing, effective immediately.
This dream started over 10 years ago and has given us countless memories and friendships that we will cherish forever, We can't begin to thank everyone enough for their support, we wouldn't have made it this far without you!
Over the years, we have come close to making this announcement many times, and somehow or another we would find a way to stay open, but we have finally run out of good luck and miracles, so it's time to hopefully move on to bigger and better things!
Many of you donated to our gofundme, which allowed us to make necessary repairs and get caught up on some bills, which allowed us to stay open the rest of the year, and finish out a great season with Orlando City Soccer going deep into the playoffs, but the changes being made downtown over the past year, have basically turned Downtown Orlando into a ghost town, which has affected our business significantly and we see no way to stay open in 2025. Many other factors have affected this decision as well, such as the increase in the cost of doing business and the unfortunate decline in craft beer. All of this has put us in a position that makes overcoming these challenges greater than our financial, mental, and physical resources can allow us to.
We can't begin to thank everyone enough but want to give everyone one last chance to have a pint in the taproom before we move out.
We will have one last party in the taproom on Sat Jan 18th, free beer until the kegs are empty!
More details and time for the event will be made available soon, we hope you can make it out!
Sincerely, Charles, Elyssa and the Broken Strings Family"
