Produced by Track Shack, the Orlando Magic 5K, 1 Mile and Kids’ Run provides an event filled with music, entertainment, activities and more for all ages to enjoy. The focus of the event is benefiting the health in an engaging and impactful way for all who participate, both locally and nationally.
The Orlando Magic 5K, 1 Mile and Kids’ Run is providing an opportunity for kids taking part in Finish Like a Champion to mark a special accomplishment at the run on February 4, the day after the U.S. Marathon Team Trials.
Finish Like a Champion is a free, six-month running program that encourages healthy habits both physically and nutritionally in elementary and middle school-aged children. They’ll work towards completing a total of 26.2 miles – the distance of a full marathon – by the day of the race. Local kids can still register to take part in this complimentary program via their school’s Marathon Kids program or at-home programming that families can do on their own.
Leaders of the project wanted to build excitement around the Trials taking place in Orlando and build education around healthy life choices to the youth in the Orlando community. The Orlando Magic 5K, 1 Mile and Kids’ Run will be a place for participating kids to log their final miles, and is a great place for friends and families to join in on the fun.
This year, the Orlando Magic 5K, 1 Mile and Kids’ Run, presented by AdventHealth and produced by Track Shack, is a celebration of the Orlando Magic's 35th anniversary season and benefits the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation (OMYF). The race will take place on Sunday, February 4 starting at 7:30 a.m. at Lake Eola Park, the day after the U.S. Marathon Trials and utilizing parts of the same course. Runners, walkers and Magic fans of all ages and abilities are welcome. Participants will receive a bib number, custom medal and a souvenir shirt. Registration for the event is still open.
“I’m so thrilled to see the numbers of youth signing up for our event continuing to rise,” said Betsy Hughes, Co-Owner of Track Shack. “Our goal of this program is not only to incentivize healthy habits for the youth in our community, but also to get them involved in an event that brings together so many amazing people and organizations. I can’t wait to see them all finishing their 26.2 miles – just like the hopeful athletes visiting Orlando that same weekend – at our event!”
Proceeds from the event will be benefiting the OMYF. The focus of this foundation is to help children in Central Florida realize their full potential, especially those most at risk, by supporting programs and partnerships that empower families and change lives. Visit OMYF.org to learn more.
