Hurricane Milton made landfall late Wednesday evening south of Tampa at Siesta Key, and as the hurricane moves across the state, Central Florida is experiencing high winds and flooding rain, driving emergency responders off the road.
As Hurricane Milton tears its way across Central Florida, emergency responders are unable to respond to emergency calls as hurricane force winds blow across the state.
Just after midnight, the Orlando Police Department and Orlando Fire Department announced that they are no longer responding to emergencies until the worst of the dangerous storm has passed through Orlando.
Osceola County has now also announced that Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS are now also unable to respond to emergency calls, with first responders sheltering in place as winds howl across Kissimmee and St Cloud/
Emergency vehicles from Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS are currently staged at Osceola County’s Heritage Park ready to respond to the community as soon as it is safe to do so.
At Osceola County Emergency Operations Center, team members are stayig overnight to ensure the safety and well-being of Osceola County residents.
A curfew is in effect tonight from 8 p.m. (10/09) until 10 a.m. Thursday (10/10) in Osceola County.
This includes Osceola County, and the Cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud. This curfew does NOT apply to first responders, health care workers, and other essential employees. If you're traveling to or from work, be sure to have your ID and work phone number ready.
