Florida's premier horror convention was set to return this weekend for its fall ediition, but Hurricane Milton has forced the convention to postpone.
Orlando's legendary convention weekend for fans that enjoy the dark side of comic con, Spooky Empire was set to return Friday, October 11 - Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando
Now due to the incoming Hurricane Milton, the event has been postponed to a later date.
Here is the statement from the organizers:
While we worked hard to keep the event open this weekend, Milton has other plans for us.
We have made the ultimate decision at this time to postpone Spooky Empire to a later date.
The path and strength of this storm is affecting our entire state and we are not comfortable celebrating this weekend amongst evacuees and locals who may have incurred damage or loss. We also have no intention of putting our attendees, vendors or our staff in harms way to get here.
Flights are now being cancelled all the way through Friday which makes it very hard to get most of the guests here as well as many attendees and vendors.
It has always been our policy that if we can't give you a 100% Spooky Empire show, then we're not going to do it. It's not fair to anyone that works so hard to get here.
We are already working on that new date as we speak and will announce those as soon as we can.
PLEASE give us until after the storm to get you all the information as far as rescheduling or refunds. We will have all that information gathered and out to everyone by Monday or Tuesday of next week.
The Hyatt will automatically be canceling hotel reservations today. So unless you have already checked in, there's nothing for you to do. If you would like your room to be reinstated please call them today!
PLEASE stay safe everyone so we can see you other side of this storm.
Highlights of the event usually include Spooky Empire’s Horror Film Festival featuring films from all over the world, a Tattoo Festival with 120+ artists, and a huge vendor room with vendors selling collectibles, clothing, art and more.
Special FX Makeup and Demos are offered from the pros for guests to watch. Live bands, drag shows, and burlesque performances will take place at Spooky Empire, featuring a performance by Vision Video.
Costume contests are also held where guests can win over $1000 in cash and prizes!
Celebrity guests are of course a popular fixture at Spooky Empire, and Ocotber's event bings some awesome guests!
