A symphonic portrait inspired by the civic engagement of young Americans, narrated in their own words.
What does it mean to be on the cusp of adulthood in America today?
Witness a symphonic portrait of a new generation in the world premiere of “Seventeen,” music composed by Ron Ramin, libretto by Portia Kamons , with narration directed by Jamie Bernstein. Inspired by the civic engagement of young Americans and narrated in their own words, this four-movement piece conveys the recent experiences of young Americans as they confront an unprecedented range of challenges, from gun violence to climate change.
Seventeen takes place on November 8, 2024 at Steinmetz Hall.
Featuring a libretto of verbatim text from interviews with young activists, “Seventeen” speaks powerfully to their generation’s spirit and determination.
Hear the piece for the very first time and then attend a special Q&A after the performance with the creators of the work, as well as Music Director Eric Jacobsen and others involved in the project.
