Orlando International Airport prepares to welcome 1.1 Million Travellers this Memorial Day Weekend

As the nation’s most visited destination, Orlando gearing up for a busy Memorial Day Weekend with Orlando International Airport (MCO) expecting more than 1.1 million travelers to travel through the airport during the busy travel period.

With Memorial Day marking the unofficial start of the summer travel season. early indications, including growing demand and an increase in airline service and seat capacity, point to a very busy summer for Orlando International Airport.


As the airport prepares to welcome over 1.1 million travelers through the airport during the busy Memorial Day Weekend, airport official say that passenger numbers are up 16% on last year, and with so many travellers passing through the airport the main thing for travellers to pack this year is their patience!

In anticipation of increased demand for parking during Memorial Day, MCO is planning to open the West Park Place parking lot in support of all other airport garages and lots. West Park Place, located on Tradeport Drive, will open 3,100 additional spaces.


Drivers are encouraged to check www.orlandoairports.net or the airport's social media channels for the latest parking information.


MCO have issued the top five busiest days this coming travel period:


1. May 27 - 169,659

2. May 26 - 167, 152

3. May 29 - 164,719

4. May 28 - 162,025

5. May 25 - 161,842


To help passengers have a stress free journey through MCO, officials have issues the following tips:


  • If you lose your driver’s license, other forms of ID can be accepted including: military, tribal, passports and trusted traveler.

  • Wear slip on shoes and socks are recommended.

  • Leave your jewelry on during screening.

  • Remember, anything electronic larger than a cell phone must be placed in its own bin for screening
