As Central Florida awaits the arrival of Tropical Storm Nicole, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) continues to monitor the development of Tropical Storm Nicole and its impact on operations at Orlando International Airport.
MCO ceased all commercial operations ahead of the storm today, Wednesday, November 9, at 4.00 pm ET, and the GOAA Emergency Operations Center has been activated.
Aviation Authority personnel will remain in contact with the airlines and other partners to monitor the storm’s progression over the next 24 hours to best judge when the situation will permit operations to resume at MCO.
Orlando International Airport have been busy making preparations to ensure the safety of their staff, partners, travelers and facilities ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole.
Airport staff have been prepping gate and curbside areas in advance of the storm.
These efforts include tying down Passenger Boarding Bridge, removing debris, covering sensitive electronic equipment in the terminal and so much more!
Passengers are advised to contact their individual airlines and rental car companies for specific questions about flights, schedules and rental car return policies.
GOAA has designated multiple staff members to remain inside the terminal for the duration of the storm as part of a ride-out-crew. Their job will be to assess and address any damage that may occur and to help prepare the airport for operations again as soon as possible once the storm passes.
ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS NOT AN AUTHORIZED SHELTER.
PASSENGERS SHOULD PLAN AND MAKE PERSONAL ACCOMMODATIONS IN ADVANCE OF THE STORM.
We will be updating you with all the latest theme park updates throughout the storm.
