The Orange County Library System have kicked off their 100th Birthday Celebrations.
The Orange County Library System is celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2023, and on Saturday, an incredible year of celebrations kicked off in spectacular style.
The celebrations started with proclamations from Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.
Plus, big news from the celebrations was the Sorosis of Orlando Woman's Club presenting a $100,000 donation to bring back the Bookmobile which will bring library services to underserved communities.
Orange County Library System will immediately put to use the $100,000 donation with plans to bring library services directly to the public with the purchase of a bookmobile and even some book bicycles!
Orange County Library System first introduced bookmobile services, also with the help of a donation by Sorosis, back in 1949, with the service in operation until 1979.
Announcing the return of bookmobile services, Library Director Steve Powell said “As our county grows, we need to look for new and innovative ways to deliver services, especially to areas with transportation needs and other challenges,” Powell continued, “A bookmobile will go a long way toward addressing those challenges. We are grateful to Sorosis of Orlando for this very generous donation.”
The celebrations continued all day Saturday with entertainment and more.
