After months of silence, AREA15, the immersive art and entertainment district in Las Vegas has cancelled its plans to open in Orlando.
Back in March 2022, the Las Vegas attraction AREA15 announced exciting plans to bring its art and entertainment concept eastwards to Orlando, hoping that it would be as popular as the Las Vegas original which draws upwards of 2 million visitors per year.
Based on the Las Vegas original, the Orlando entertainment venue would feature a spectacular 300,000-square-foot building which will be home to a range of attractions, art installations, retail offerings, restaurants, bars, and more, all under one roof.
AREA 15 Orlando was to be located in the heart of the city’s tourist corridor, just off I-4 between I-Drive and Walt Disney World, on an area of land next to the Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets, and across from O-Town West.
At the time of the announcement, a massive robot called Mechan 11 was placed in the field that was set to be home to AREA 15 Orlando, but other than that not much happened.
No work commenced, no announcements were made about possible tenants in the complex, all which led to rumors that the project might never happen.
Then last week the robot mysteriously disappeared, only to be replaced by a For SALE sign, so at this point sadly things were not looking good for AREA 15 opening in Orlando!
The latest news is that the project is now officially cancelled with AREA 15 confirming the project is not moving forward, and the land is on the market.
No reason was given for the cancelation of the high profile project, but it is rumored that the company failed to attract enough viable tenants for the project.
Another factor could have been the location, with a more popular choice possibly being closer to the Orlando County Convention Center and International Drive, where convention attendees and tourists converge for night time entertainment.
Whatever the reason, to experience AREA 15 you will now have to visit Las Vegas.
