With wooden coasters, elephant rides, and a six-story IMAX screen, Circus World Showcase was shaping up to be the Greatest Theme Park on Earth. So, what made this Haines City attraction close its doors in 1986? Step right up and hear all about it at March’s Lunch and Learn with Kallie Turner, the curator of education at the Orange County Regional History Center.


March’s Lunch and Learn at Orange County Regional History Center on Friday, March 7, 2025, will explore the history of Circus World, a theme parkjust north of Haines City, Florida in Polk County, on the south-east corner of the Interstate 4-US 27 interchange. It was originally a property of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Combined Shows Inc., and was intended additionally to be the circus's winter headquarters as well as to have the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College and its museum located there




About the Speaker

Kallie Turner is the curator of education at the Orange County Regional History Center. She received a B.A. in Art History from Columbus State University in Georgia and a master’s in Museum Education from Florida State University in Tallahassee. Through her work, she aims to curate programs that are accessible, entertaining, and educational.

One of Florida’s preeminent cultural institutions, the Orange County Regional History Center advances its mission to honor the past, explore the present, and shape the future through permanent and traveling exhibits, wide-ranging programs, and limited-run exhibitions from other prestigious institutions. With deep roots in Orange County, the History Center opened in 2000 and is operated by Orange County and the nonprofit Historical Society of Central Florida, Inc.


The History Center is located in the restored 1927 courthouse at Magnolia Avenue and Central Boulevard in the heart of downtown Orlando. Parking is available in the Library Parking Garage at 112 E. Central Blvd. across from the Orlando Public Library.
