Milton currently remains a Category 1 Hurricane in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico early this evening. The forecast continues to call for rapid intensification to a major hurricane early this week, as it approaches the west coast of Florida midweek.

Sunday, Oct. 6: Due to potential weather impacts to guest travel plans, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of Sunday, 10/6 – Saturday, 10/12.


Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified, or canceled online, including changes to travel dates, without fees. Packages including air transportation or other services provided by third parties, or those with travel protection, cannot be modified or canceled online. For Guests with these reservations please call for assistance.


Sunday, Oct. 6: Walt Disney World issued its first official statement on Hurricane Milton:


"Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions. We are closely monitoring the path of the projected storm as we continue to prioritize the safety of our Guests and Cast Members."


Sunday, Oct. 6: The resort blocked theme park reservations for Wednesday, Oct. 9 at all four Walt Disney World theme parks.


Saturday, Oct. 5: Walt Disney World paused hotel reservations for Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, October. 10.

Hurricane Helene: Airline Travel Advisories

United has issued a travel alert impacting five airports in Florida, including Orlando (MCO) and Tampa (TPA).


Airports affected:

Key West, FL, US (EYW)

Orlando, FL, US (MCO)

Fort Myers, FL, US (RSW)

Sarasota/Bradenton, FL, US (SRQ)

Tampa, FL, US (TPA)


Passengers who bought a ticket on or before October 4, 2024, and are due to travel October 7, 2024 - October 10, 2024, to, from or through any of the listed airports can reschedule the trip with no change fees and fare differences.


You can reschedule your trip and we’ll waive change fees and fare differences. But, your new flight must be a United flight departing between October 5, 2024 and October 17, 2024. Tickets must be in the same cabin and between the same cities as originally booked.

Southwest Airlines has issued a travel alert for four airports in Florida, including Tampa (TPA), and Orlando (MCO). Southwest say that scheduled service from October 8 through October 10 may be disrupted (flights may be delayed, diverted, and/or canceled).


The airline will waive change and cancel fees and fare differences for customers traveling Tuesday, October 8 through Thursday, October 10, 2024 to/from the following cities:

Hurricane Idalie School Closures


Hurricane Milton: Update for OCPS families and employees:

We are continuing to monitor and track Hurricane Milton. District leadership has been meeting to discuss preparations for the storm’s impact on Orange County. The OCPS Safety & Emergency Management team is coordinating operations with the Orange County Office of Emergency Management and other local officials to ensure the school district’s decision-making is aligned with our partners.


We will have another update on Monday on any potential school closures and canceling of after-school activities.


OCPS will continue to communicate all updates through phone calls, emails and text messages, as well as posts to our social media pages, and on ocps.net. 


We strongly encourage everyone to prepare for the possible impacts from the storm. Again, we will have another update on Monday. Please stay safe.




We are working closely with Seminole County FL Emergency Management to monitor weather conditions due to Tropical Storm Milton. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.




Osceola School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff is closely monitoring the weather system in the Gulf of Mexico, and, in consultation with emergency management professionals and county leaders, has made the following decisions due to the projected impact to our area:


On Monday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 8, school will be in session. All after-school activities, events, and athletics at all schools will operate as normal on Monday but will be cancelled for Tuesday. The district's Extended Day/Learning Program will operate as normal on both Monday and Tuesday. The Osceola County School Board workshop and Board meeting that was to be held on Tuesday, October 8, have been cancelled. The next Osceola County School Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 22.


On Wednesday, October 9, all SDOC schools and school district operations will be closed. Employees will not report to work unless deemed essential by supervisor (i.e. Maintenance Department).


The district will continue to closely monitor the impacts of the storm with Osceola County Emergency Management before making any decisions about school for Thursday and Friday of this week to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Parents and community residents are encouraged to monitor the district's social media or website at www.osceolaschools.net for any further school district updates.




Based on the most current forecast, we do not expect significant weather in Polk County tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 7. Consequently, all PCPS schools and offices will remain open during regular hours tomorrow.


However, we will be canceling or rescheduling Monday’s after-school programs and sports. For specific information about rescheduled events, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s school directly.


Please be advised that all PCPS schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10, in response to this storm.


County emergency officials have directed PCPS to activate some of our schools that will be serving as storm shelters for those evacuating their homes.


County emergency officials will be sharing shelter information with the public as it becomes available. Please note only certain schools will be activated to serve as shelters. Visit the Polk County Government’s website and social media for official shelter information.


Again, all PCPS schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Please note that our decision to close schools does not extend to charter and private schools. We recommend that you contact those institutions directly for any relevant information.


At this time, no decision has been made regarding Friday’s operations for PCPS schools and offices.


We will continue to work closely with emergency management personnel, as well as monitor weather forecasts and this storm’s impact on our community and state. For any official announcements or updates, please stay tuned for communications via automated phone calls, emails, our website and social media accounts.




Lake County public schools are open tomorrow (Monday, 10/7). The district will announce on Monday any changes to school operations resulting from Hurricane Milton. The announcement will be shared directly with parents by email and phone call. It will also be posted on district and school web pages and on district and school official social media pages.

Volusia County Schools is continuing to work with Volusia County Emergency Management to closely monitor Hurricane Milton.


At this time, all after-school activities except for Extended Day Enrichment Programs will be canceled on Monday, Oct. 7.


VCS will announce further information on Monday about potential school closures after our morning briefing with Volusia County Emergency Management. This will ensure we have the most current information to make the best decisions for the safety of our families and staff.

Flagler Schools is working closely with Flagler County Emergency Management to monitor this storm as it approaches Florida. Our top priority is leeping students, families, faculty and staff safe.


We will continue to provide updates as necessary to keep everyone safe.




Based on the latest weather forecasts, MCPS will close Wednesday & Thursday due to Hurricane Milton. All after-school extracurricular activities on Tuesday are also canceled.

The College is monitoring the development of Hurricane Milton. At this time, based on the current projected forecast from the National Hurricane Center, the Rollins emergency operations team has made the decision to close campus and evacuate.


All classes and events are canceled this week, Monday, October 7, through Friday, October 11. The campus will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, except for emergency essential staff.

Residential students must evacuate campus and follow their Hurricane/Emergency Evacuation plan by Tuesday, October 8, at 5 p.m. The Student Outreach & Resource Center will help you in evacuating to a Red Cross shelter, if necessary. Remember, most shelters do not accept pets.

Take medications, valuables, personal documents and course materials with you. When evacuating, empty and unplug your refrigerator and wrap towels around the base to absorb water due to defrosting. Unplug all power cords. Close and lock your windows tightly, and close blinds. Move any items that may be damaged by water off the floor and cover electronic items with plastic. Remove any trash and lock the door.

Davie Satellite Campuses


Due to the forecasted rapid intensification of Hurricane Milton, the following schedule changes will apply to ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and staff:


Monday, October 7: All classes will be conducted online or through virtual assignments.

All in-person events and campus activities are postponed to a later date.


Tuesday, October 8: All classes are canceled, and all events and campus activities are postponed later.


Wednesday, October 9: All classes are canceled, and all events and campus activities are postponed later.


Thursday, October 10: Classes will resume online/virtually, with all assignments available online. In-person events and campus activities will remain postponed.


 Based on the predicted storm path, the FAMU main campus will not be impacted. FAMU’s main campus will continue normal operations, and classes will be held as scheduled.


The FAMU Developmental Research School (K-12) and the FAMU Educational Research Center for Child Development will remain open as normally scheduled.



Florida State University is actively monitoring the development and forecast track of Hurricane Milton.


Due to Hurricane Milton and its possible impact on the region, The Ringling campus in Sarasota will be closed to visitors beginning Monday, Oct. 7, through Wednesday, Oct. 9. University officials will determine the appropriate day and time to reopen the campus.

Osceola Couny will be distributing sandbagsSunday, Oct. 6 from 9am - 5pm. and Monday, Oct.7 from 9 am - 6pm at Osceola Heritage Park.


Each household is allowed up to 25 sandbags. Remember to bring your own shovel or filling tool. Supplies are limited, and on a first-come first-served basis.


Residents who still have sandbags from previous distributions, are encouraged to reuse them.



Polk County is making sandbags available throughout the county on Oct. 6 and 7. Locations below will be open from 8am to 5:30pm.

A maximum of 10 sandbags will be provided to each household address to help prevent water intrusion into the home. You will need to bring a driver license to show your local address.

Sand and bags will be available on site - residents should bring their own shovels and will need to fill their own bags. There is a max of 10 bags per household in a 24 hour period.

Sandbag operations will resume October 6, from 8am - 5pm at Fire Rescue Station 23 (1850 Pioneer Trail, New Smyrna Beach) and Fire Rescue Station 34 (1700 Enterprise-Osteen Road, Osteen).


Residents should bring a shovel, and please note there’s a limit of 10 sandbags per household.


Additionally, a drive-thru service for pre-filled sandbags will be available from 9am - 1pm. at the Volusia County Branch Jail (1300 Red John Drive, Daytona Beach), with each vehicle eligible to receive up to 10 bags.


With Tropical Storm Milton forecasted to strengthen into a hurricane, we may experience 4-6 inches of rain and strong winds, so it’s crucial to stay informed and prepared.


Proof of residency is required at all locations, and if you live in an incorporated city, be sure to check with your local government for sandbag distribution information.

Marion County Emergency Management is actively monitoring Tropical Storm Milton and has announced the opening of nine sandbag locations across Marion County.


The sandbag locations will begin operations at 12pm, Sunday, October. 6. These locations are self-serve, bags are provided, and a limited number of shovels will be available at the sites. However, citizens are encouraged to bring their own.


Officials request that each person limit their use to 10 bags per vehicle.
