Hurricane Milton: Update for OCPS families and employees:

We are continuing to monitor and track Hurricane Milton. District leadership has been meeting to discuss preparations for the storm’s impact on Orange County. The OCPS Safety & Emergency Management team is coordinating operations with the Orange County Office of Emergency Management and other local officials to ensure the school district’s decision-making is aligned with our partners.

We will have another update on Monday on any potential school closures and canceling of after-school activities.

OCPS will continue to communicate all updates through phone calls, emails and text messages, as well as posts to our social media pages, and on ocps.net.

We strongly encourage everyone to prepare for the possible impacts from the storm. Again, we will have another update on Monday. Please stay safe.

The next Osceola County School Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 22.

On Wednesday, October 9, all SDOC schools and school district operations will be closed. Employees will not report to work unless deemed essential by supervisor (i.e. Maintenance Department).

The district will continue to closely monitor the impacts of the storm with Osceola County Emergency Management before making any decisions about school for Thursday and Friday of this week to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Parents and community residents are encouraged to monitor the district's social media or website at www.osceolaschools.net for any further school district updates.

The College is monitoring the development of Hurricane Milton. At this time, based on the current projected forecast from the National Hurricane Center, the Rollins emergency operations team has made the decision to close campus and evacuate.

All classes and events are canceled this week, Monday, October 7, through Friday, October 11. The campus will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, except for emergency essential staff.

Residential students must evacuate campus and follow their Hurricane/Emergency Evacuation plan by Tuesday, October 8, at 5 p.m. The Student Outreach & Resource Center will help you in evacuating to a Red Cross shelter, if necessary. Remember, most shelters do not accept pets.

Take medications, valuables, personal documents and course materials with you. When evacuating, empty and unplug your refrigerator and wrap towels around the base to absorb water due to defrosting. Unplug all power cords. Close and lock your windows tightly, and close blinds. Move any items that may be damaged by water off the floor and cover electronic items with plastic. Remove any trash and lock the door.
