Tropical Storm Lee has formed in the Central Atlantic, and the National Hurricane Center s warning that Lee is expected to be a hurricane within a couple of days and will likely become a major hurricane by Friday.
Earlier today, Tuesday, September 5, Tropical Storm Lee formed in the Atlantic Ocean where according to the National Weather Center, Lee is expected to rapidly strengthen into an "extremely dangerous hurricane" by this weekend.
Environmental conditions are conducive for further development and as we near the peak of hurricane season on September 10, Lee has the potential to threaten Florida by that date.
The latest update from the National Hurricane Center pinpointed Tropical Storm Lee 1,315 miles east of The Lesser Antilles and has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, the NHC said. It's moving west-northwest at 16 mph.
The latest track shows the tropical storm quickly strengthening into a Category 4 hurricane northeast of Haiti, and in the general direction toward Florida.
Thankfully, as of right now, computer models currently show Lee curving away from Florida, however, it's still far too early to know if the storm could track towards Florida, potentially targeting the east coast of the state.
