1999’s But I’m A Cheerleader is a film ahead of its time, the film used satire and comedy to explore the horrors of conversion therapy programs. Megan Bloomfield, a high school cheerleader, is sent to a conversion camp after her friends and family have an intervention to tell her she’s gay. It’s there that Megan embraces her sexuality, despite the therapy, and learns who she really is.

This film has a legendary cast including …. Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, Cathy Moriarty, RuPaul, Joel Michaely, Douglas Spain, Michelle Williams, Melanie Lynsky, Eddie Cibrian, Kip Perdue, and even a cameo by Julie Delpy.

Directed Jamie Babbit and written by Brian Wayne Peterson, it’s no wonder that this 1999 uniquely-American comedy went on to become a true cult classic within the LGBTQ world and beyond. Its cast had the perfect mix of–both–established cult classic talent and some relatively fresh faces that went on to become huge stars not long after.
