As Hurricane Helene brought flooding and wind damage to the Tampa Bay area, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is closed as staff check for damage.
Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region as a catastrophic Category 4 storm Thursday night, lashing the region with devastating winds around 140 mph, and a catastrophic storm surge.
In the Tampa Bay area, Helene brought major impacts to the region including flooding which prompted hundreds of water rescues in coastal areas. Damaging winds also caused many power lines and trees to fall.
Due to the possibility for life-threatening weather conditions, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay made the decision to temporarily close ahead of the storm.
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Adventure Island Water Park were closed on Thursday, September 26.
Normal operations were due to resume today, Friday, September 27, and Adventure Island has reopened, but Busch Gardens remained closed as staff assesed the huge park for any damage.
Busch Gardens released a statement to inform guests that the park remains closed as they check for any damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Initially they did not say when they were reopening but this has been updated and the park will reopen at 1 pm, with tonights Howl-O-Scream happening as normal.
