Hurricane Watches, Tropical Storm Watches and Storm Surge Watches are all in effect for Florida's west coast as Hurricane Milton approaches, and with Tampa under threat of the storm, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is to close.
As Hurricane Milton continues to rapidly intensify, strengthening into a major Category 5 storm in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, the situation is beginning to look more and more dire on the west coast of Florida.
In the Tampa Bay area, the storm is currently projected to bring deadly storm surge that could reach up to 12 feet, including Tampa Bay, together with dangerous winds and heavy rainfall, with several inches possible.
If the storm stays on the current track, it will be the worst storm to impact the Tampa area in over 100 years.
Now, due to the projected path of Hurricane Milton, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has enacted its Named Storm Policy and will be closed on Tuesday, October 8; Wednesday, October 9; and Thursday, October 10.
Already announced today, both LEGOLAND Florida and its sister park Peppa Pig Theme Park will also be closed in the days ahead.
LEGOLAND Florida will be closed on Wednesday, October 9 – Thursday, October 10, while eppa Pig Theme Park will be closed on Tuesday, October 8 – Thursday, October 10.
Hotel operations will continue with limited capacity for guests already staying at the resort.
At 175 mph, Milton is the strongest Atlantic hurricane in 5 years since Hurricane Dorian in 2019.
Milton is also tied for the fourth strongest storm since record keeping began. Hurricane Allen with 190 mph winds holds the record for the strongest Atlantic hurricane.
We urge you to stay informed and stay safe as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida.
