Hurricane Milton continues to explosively intensify in the Gulf of Mexico with 175 mph winds, and with the unprecedented storm currently forecast to rip into Tampa and tear through the I-4 corridor, Brightline is suspending services ahead of the storms arrival.
The growing threat of a major hurricane making landfall into Florida's west coast is now a worryingly real prospect, and with the chances of the storm tearing into or near Tampa, causing devastating damage as it tears through the I-4 corridor increasing by the hour, it is expected that transport links will be severely affected in the days ahead.
Earlier today, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) anoounced that it is suspending SunRail service beginning Tuesday, October 8, 2024. SunRail is expected to remain closed through at least Thursday, October 10, depending on the impact of the storm.
Now, Brightline has followed, and will cease operations all day Wednesday (10/9) and Thursday (10/10) between West Palm Beach and Orlando in advance of Hurricane Milton.
Service between all South Florida stations is expected to continue with 14 roundtrips both days. Brightline will continue to monitor the storm and provide additional updates as needed.
On Tuesday (10/8), Brightline’s 7:45 pm northbound departure from Miami will terminate in West Palm Beach. All other Tuesday departures will operate as scheduled.
They will resume full operations after an assessment of track conditions once the storm has passed. Passengers who currently have a reservation should refer to their email for updates to their trip.
Passengers are encouraged to visit www.gobrightline.com for the latest information.
We urge you to stay informed and stay safe as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida.
