Don't be spooked if you look up and see hot dogs or diapers flying through the air, because a handful of Florida Walmarts, including locations in Tampa, Clermont and Winter Haven are now offering drone delivery service.
When you run out of children's Tylenol for your sick kid, forget the eggs for your famous pancake recipe, or thought your spouse made the last diaper run, drone delivery is here to save the day!
Customers within a mile of a participating store can place orders through www.droneupdelivery.com between 8 am and 8:00 pm and a drove can deliver more than 10,000 eligible Walmart articles up to ten pounds, including fragile items like eggs, in as little as 30 minutes.
This marks the first-time customers in Florida can take advantage of Walmart’s drone delivery, following the retailer’s announced plans to expand its DroneUp network to reach four million households across six states, including Florida.
From last-minute meal solutions to a package of Christmas cookies, Walmart has successfully executed thousands of same-day drone deliveries.
“Drone delivery makes it possible for our customers to easily shop those last-minute or forgotten items in a package that’s really cool. Being on the forefront of that innovation at Walmart is something we’re proud of,” said Vik Gopalakrishnan, vice president of innovation & automation at Walmart U.S. “It may seem like a futuristic option. Still, it’s giving our customers what they’ve always wanted, and that’s time back to focus on what is most important to them.”

Walmart announced the new Tampa drone service last May, stating that over 100,000 items at the store qualify for the program, and that it expects to execute over 1 million deliveries within the first year.
Once the items are packaged and loaded into the drone, the order is delivered using a cable that gently lowers the package into the customer’s yard.
There are no order minimum order, and the delivery fee is $3.99. With the promo code FreeDeliveryFL, customers using drone delivery for the first time will have the delivery fee waived.
Walmart’s drone delivery service with DroneUp is now available in Arizona, Florida and Texas, part of a wider plan to offer the same-day delivery option in six states by the end of this year.
The retailer aims to expand its DroneUp network to cover 4 million U.S. households across six states.
To complete the delivery, the drones use a cable that lowers the payload into the safest location of the customer’s home, like a yard or driveway.
The DroneUp Delivery website noted that services may temporarily be unavailable if strong winds or other inclement weather is present.
