Another blow to Downtown Orlando Nightlife as FIVE Nightclubs on Church Street and Central Blvd. close

The once thriving downtown Orlando nightlife scene appears to be disappearing before our eyes, with the ongoing challenges of doing business downtown causing many bars, clubs and restaurant to abandon the area.

The latest business to pull the plug is Church Street Entertainment, which has ceased operations. the company operated five popular nightclubs downtown - Cahoots, Chillers, High Tide, and Irish Shannon’s on Church Street, along with Ember on Central Boulevard.

The latest blow to downtown follows Schmankerl Stub’n, Hamburger Mary’, Persimmon Hollow Brewery, Fringe ArtSpace and more who have pulled the plug on downtown recently.

Church Street Entertainment, (Downtown Entertainment LLC) is owned by Dirk Farrow and Doug Taylor who have withdrew their after-midnight alcohol sale permits for the nightclubs with the City of Orlando.

Many business owners in the downtown area believe that downtown Orlando's nightlife is suffering due to tough trading conditions, including higher operating costs, a new limit on the number of nightclubs per block, late-night permitting requirements by the city, and safety concerns for customers, including a deadly mass shooting at Halloween.

Plus, it was revealed last week that 23 downtown bars and nightclubs were caught in violation of the late-night permitting requirements in an operation ran by Orlando Police Department.

The late-night permitting requirements restricts bars and nightclubs ability to sell alcohol after midnight in the downtown area.
