Airlines Issue Travel Alerts as Hurricane Milton takes aim at Florida

Updated: Oct 7

With a Cat 3 or stronger Hurricane Milton expected to take aim at the west coast of Florida, major airlines are issuing travel alerts to customers ahead of significant disruption to air travel in the days ahead.

Gov DeSantis declares State of Emergency for 41 counties as potential Hurricane Helene targets Florida

With Florida now facing the distinct possibility of a major hurricane bringing significant disruption to large parts of the state in the coming days, major airlines are getting ahead of the storm and issuing travel alerts to worried passengers.

As the National Weather Service warns that Milton will strengthen into a major Cat 3, or possibly higher hurricane, the possibility of major disruptions to air travel is high, with the real threat of airports having to close in the days ahead.

Milton is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Sunday night, before bearing down on Florida on Wednesday. The current path of the storm has the storm making landfall in the Tampa Bay area before tearing through the I-4 corridor towards Orlando, and the main tourists areas.

The National Hurricane Center is warning Floridians and the large amount of visitors already in Florida, or traveling to the state in the coming days to take the potential for severe weather seriously.

Anyone due to fly should be aware that disruption to flights to and from Florida will likely see significant delays, or even cancelations as the effects of a potential hurricane rain down on the state.

In advance of the storm making landfall, airlines are already issuing travel advisories, and announcing travel waivers allowing passengers flying in or out of impacted airports to rebook without paying the fare difference. As always check with your airline.
