AAA Tow To Go Program returns for Thanksgiving, offering Free Tows for Impaired Drivers

As we drive into the holiday week, the AAA has once again activating its Tow to Go program for the holidays, offering its "Tow to Go" program – for members and non-members – as a last defense to keep impaired drivers off the road during the holidays.

AAA Tow To Go Program returns for Thanksgiving, offering Free Tows for Impaired Drivers

Don't be a Turkey, the AAA has once again activating its Tow to Go program, The program will provide safe rides home starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 22 through 6 a.m. Monday, November 27.

In addition to helping impaired drivers, AAA is preparing to rescue more than 360,000 drivers with car trouble this holiday weekend.

Nationwide, AAA is predicting that this will be the third-busiest Thanksgiving on record, with an estimated 49.1 million Americans forecast to take a road trip. Combining cocktails with crowded roads can be deadly.

During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, from 2017-2021, more than 830 people died in crashes involving a drunk driver, according to NHTSA..

The service will be in place to help drivers who may have had a little too much to drink and don’t have a ride home and should be treated as a last resort.

The AAA stresses that it should only be used as a last resort, with the service only available to one person and their vehicle.

A tow truck will take the impaired driver home or to a safe location, but it must be within a 10-mile radius.

According to AAA, Tow to Go aims to remove impaired drivers from roads and get people home safely on nights when impaired driving may be more likely.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that between Christmas to New Year’s in 2020, there were 209 drunk driving-related fatalities nationwide.

AAA has offered Tow to Go during major holidays for almost 25 years. During that time, they removed more than 25,000 impaired drivers from the road.

The number to call is (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.

Important Tow To Go Guidelines

Appointments cannot be scheduled in advance to use Tow to Go. It is designed as a safety net for those that did not plan ahead. Always choose a designated driver before celebrating.

The Tow to Go program operates here in Orlando and throughout Florida, and in addition offers service in Georgia (excluding Savannah), Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Denver, Colorado, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Fort Wayne/South Bend, Indiana.
